A specialized service

I offer a specialized service to French law firms working at the international level: the production and substantive revision of English-language content — thought leadership articles, client advisories, white papers, contributed pieces, and practice group presentations — written with the fluency of a native speaker and a genuine feel for the professional environment in which that content will be read and judged.
My background features some interesting combinations. I am admitted to both the California Bar and the Barreau de Paris, and I have spent the better part of my career teaching law at French universities and business schools. I understand how French legal reasoning works, and how to render it in English that is not merely correct but also persuasive and natural to an anglophone professional reader. More than that, I know the international legal milieu from the inside.
I work on defined mandates with a clear deliverable and a clear endpoint. I am comfortable producing a complete text from an outline or a conversation, but the work I do best begins with a draft, a set of notes, or an existing text in French that needs to become market-ready English prose. What I offer is a clean transformation of content that is legally and intellectually sound into language that will read naturally and authoritatively to an anglophone professional audience.

Un service sur mesure

Je propose un service sur mesure aux cabinets d'avocats et aux praticiens du droit travaillant à l'international : la rédaction et la réécriture de contenus en anglais — tribunes, notes clients, livres blancs, présentations de pratiques — avec une connaissance réelle du milieu dans lequel ces textes seront lus et jugés.
Mon parcours rend cette combinaison rare. Je connais le raisonnement juridique français — sa logique, ses exigences, ses conventions — et je sais le restituer en anglais d'une manière qui ne soit pas seulement correcte, mais naturelle et convaincante pour un lecteur anglo-saxon. Ce n'est pas de la traduction : c'est une mise en forme dans la langue cible, par quelqu'un qui en maîtrise aussi bien les codes professionnels que les ressources stylistiques.
Je travaille d'un contenu vers un livrable avec un périmètre défini et un résultat concret. Le travail que je fais le mieux part d'un matériau existant : une ébauche, des notes, un texte en français qu'il s'agit de transformer en prose anglaise prête à diffuser. Ce que je propose, c'est la transformation d'un contenu juridiquement et intellectuellement solide en une langue qui sonne juste et fait autorité auprès d'un lectorat professionnel anglophone.

Capsule biography

Paul Okel is admitted to the bars of California and Paris. For much of his career he piloted legal projects, built legal teams across jurisdictions, managed legal budgets, and bridged distances, whether geographic, legal, or cultural. He spends much of his time today teaching, both in English and in French, at universities and French grandes écolesacross a range of subjects. In a professional life lived at the European and international level, he has long made complex legal ideas legible to people who need to act on them.
